About Breakout

Breakout was created by Atari and released in 1976. Designed by Nolan Bushnell and Steve Bristow, the hardware prototype was famously built by Steve Wozniak with help from Steve Jobs. The player controls a paddle at the bottom of the screen and uses a ball to destroy rows of bricks at the top. It became one of the most influential arcade games ever made.

The concept inspired countless clones and spiritual successors, including Taito's Arkanoid (1986) which popularized power-ups like wider paddles, multi-ball, and laser cannons. The brick-breaking genre remains a staple of casual gaming to this day.

Our browser version features neon-glow visuals, five distinct levels with unique brick patterns, three power-up types, a combo scoring system, and three difficulty settings. Play on desktop with keyboard or mouse, or use touch controls on your phone or tablet.
